ISR stands for Infant Swimming Resource — the nation's leading program that teaches infants and young children life-saving self-rescue skills through safe, one-on-one instruction.

Traditional lessons focus on play, basic movement and water acclimation. ISR teaches real survival skills — how to roll onto the back, float, breathe, and swim to safety independently. Once those are mastered, we build on them for confident, fun swimming.

We teach children from 6 months to 8 years in our ISR Self-Rescue® program, and offer stroke development for children 3 years and up. Each lesson is individualized based on your child’s age, ability, and comfort level.

Yes! We regularly work with children who have autism, Down syndrome, sensory sensitivities, or developmental delays. Many are naturally drawn to water and find it soothing. Our one-on-one lessons allow us to adapt to each child’s needs, creating a calm, consistent environment that builds confidence and independence.

Absolutely. The structure and predictability of ISR lessons are often very helpful for sensory-sensitive children. We move at your child’s pace and adjust communication, transitions, and routines to help them feel safe and successful.

Yes, we welcome children of all abilities. We collaborate closely with parents to understand each child’s unique needs and make any necessary adaptations. Every child can learn vital self-rescue skills.

Lessons are short and focused — about 10 minutes each day, Monday through Thursday. The consistency helps your child learn efficiently and comfortably.

ISR self-rescue courses are Monday through Thursday 4 days a week for approximately 8 weeks (roughly 30 classes taken at your child's pace). Repetition and consistency are crucial elements of learning for young children. Research shows that short, more frequent lessons build muscle memory faster which results in higher retention.

If you need to miss a week, please let your instructor know as soon as possible.  With ISR self rescue courses, you are scheduling a series of lessons and can accrue up to a maximum of 3 makeup credits per course.  We understand absences happen but maintaining daily consistency is ideal for building retention.

Most children complete their initial session in 8 weeks (approximately 30 classes), depending on age, experience, and learning pace. Every child progresses at their own speed — we celebrate each milestone!

We often schedule siblings back-to-back or simultaneously if two instructors are available.   If you have multiple children and don’t see sequential times that work for you, please contact us via email at info@swimgymlwr.com or text at 941-753-7459 so we can help to coordinate.

Lesson rates vary by type of lesson,  ISR lessons are $140 per week averaging 8 weeks.  Stroke lessons are $48 per class.  All classes are one on one.

Yes! Refresher lessons are recommended every 6–12 months or as your child grows or shows signs of decreased confidence. These courses are usually shorter (1-3 weeks) and help reinforce skills and confidence.

We require two snug-fitting reusable swim diapers for infants and toddlers, and a rash guard or fitted swimsuit for older children.

No, ISR lessons are one-on-one between the instructor and your child, which helps focus and skill retention. You’ll stay nearby poolside to observe and cheer them on! Once children are fully skilled we invite parents to join us in the pool for a guided lesson, this provides an opportunity for parents to learn safe practice habits that can be applied at home.

For ISR students attending daily, we allow up to a maximum of 3 makeup credits per session for missed lessons.  For maintenance and stroke lessons we require 48 hours notice to receive a makeup credit.
